NCO OFFERING BACK-TO-SCHOOL PREP GROUP FOR ADD/ADHD TEENS
Workshop gives teens and parents useful and necessary tools to help them achieve success in school.

NAPERVILLE, IL July 30, 2008-- Before the school year begins, it is critical to ensure the success of ADD/ADHD teens by organizing and preparing for the approaching school year.  NCO Youth and Family Services is now accepting enrollment into the new Choices and Challenges program for teens who are dealing with ADD/ADHD. This specialized 6 week workshop will focus on preparing ADD/ADHD teens for the upcoming school year, and will assist parents in helping their teens get organized and primed for success.
The school year can be especially challenging for teens with ADD/ADHD. To maximize success, this workshop will begin prior to the start of the school year. Meeting times will be August 7th, 12th, and 14th. Once the school year begins, follow-up meetings will be conducted on September 11th, 16th, and 18th to ensure that parents and teens are on-track with organization, communication, etc.
The Choices and Challenges group is designed specifically for ADD/ADHD teens and parents and will concentrate on:

  • Explaining the necessity in adapting study skills to meet the needs of the ADHD teens
  • Providing detailed instructions on getting your teen organized for school.  A specific system will be explained that utilizes color-coded calendars and folders, flash cards, locker organization tools, and dry-erase boards.
  • Overview of home suggestions on how to create a consistent work environment
  • Study strategies to help teens be successful in school
  • Information for parents on making requests for modifications on IEP’s and 504 plans
  • Tips for parents to effectively communicate with teachers and receive progress reports

This specialized workshop includes separate meeting times for both parents and teens. There will be 2 sections of this group with a limit of 10 teens in each section.  The information presented in this group is designed to be appropriate for both jr. high and high school teens. Space is limited so be sure to call and reserve your spot.
*This group will be led by clinical therapists and a Special Education teacher with over 15 years of experience in working with youth with LD and ADD/ADHD.
The cost of the group is $250 per teen.  Optional supplies will be offered at cost to parents during the group. Scholarship money is available as needed. To reserve a spot in the group, please contact Kari Wittmann Lata at 630-717-9408 or kwlata@ncoyouth.org
